An Introduction to Seaweeds

Though gaining popularity in Western cultures, seaweeds are still somewhat unfamiliar to many herbalists, land plant foragers, foodies, ecologically conscious folks, seaside explorers, and anyone else who is drawn to the magic and mystery of these sea vegetables.

Seaweeds are amazing, unique food resources, unlike any of the land plants that we know. They offer us an exceptional palette of flavors, nutrients, and constituents that are well studied for their medicinal uses.

Many people interested in working with seaweeds may not know where to begin or how to navigate nuances of choosing seaweeds and using them as food or medicine. An updated version of “Top 10 Ways to Make Seaweeds a Part of Your Life,” in this introductory class, students will learn:

  • Everyday uses of seaweeds.

  • Kristy's favorite types of seaweeds and how to use them.

  • Optimal ways for working with seaweeds as food and medicine.

  • Ideas and recipes for experimenting with seaweeds in your home kitchen.

  • Topical home uses of seaweeds.

  • Inspiration for playing with seaweeds in the herbal kitchen.

There will be an opportunity for questions and answers with Kristy on the live.
